As I’m sitting writing this blog post, my client Chanel comes to mind because of a comment she made a few years ago when I first met her. It never left my mind.
Back when I use to offer nail services. Every time she would come in for nail service we would talk about any random thing that came to mind. To give you an idea of how random our topics were… We even discussed opening a spa where pet lovers can get services done side by side with their pets…
No. That’s not what this post is about. This is about another great topic we talked about.
However, before I continue I want to let you know that this message is not for everyone. Although you are welcome to read on and share this message with someone who you feel would benefit from it. I know for a fact that not everyone will find this useful.
This message is for my melanin beauties who constantly struggle to find the right makeup shades and skin care products for their ethnic skin.
Having been there myself. I understand your struggle.
Think about it, how much money have you wasted trying to find the right skin care and makeup product for your skin tone?
I know personally, I’ve wasted thousands! Can you relate?
How many times have you spent your hard-earned money to purchase a product that made a promise but did not deliver?
How many times have you purchased makeup that you thought would match your complexion but when you arrived home tried it on… it simply did not long so good with your complexion…… And you ended up tossing it in the trash (throwing your money away.
With the recent spa renovations, I had plenty of time to think about life, my business, school, etc.
Two questions that kept recurring during the renovation process is…. One, What’s my Why? And two, what do I want my business to help others do.
The conversation I had with my client Chanel kept coming back up. Although she said it in a silly and fun way, however, it always stayed with me and has helped me shaped my business over the last 3 years.
When she said, “ I don’t see many pictures of “us” in your emails or social media post.” I responded with how hard it is to get spa-like pictures of “us”.
Because I want all my clients to feel included not excluded. I immediately started searching for more picture of guys and gals with more melanin in their skin.
Since then, my focus and mission have shifted in a major way!
Now, I trying to focus more on why I wanted to become an esthetician in the beginning…
Which was, because I personally struggled to try to treat my acne uneven skin tone and had no one to really turn to and ask questions.
Plus, when I tried to hide my uneven skin tone using makeup… It either left my face looking like a dead person (dry/ashy) or an overly done burnt chocolate chip cookie.
As an Esthetician, my goal and mission are to help clients with darker skin tones like myself learn to love and accept them self-inside and out as well as, finding quality products to achieve clear and even skin complexion.
Growing up, the only option I thought I had back then was… the small section of “skin care products” in the hair store – mainly soap bars with the intentions of making your skin lighter or the black soap to “clear up acne”.
